Josh Kaul has led the Wisconsin Department of Justice (Wisconsin DOJ) since 2019. He has a track record as AG of taking on tough fights and getting results for Wisconsinites. He wants to build on the progress we’ve been making, not go backwards.
FIGHTING FOR A SAFER WISCONSIN
Under Josh’s leadership, Wisconsin DOJ has investigated and/or prosecuted serious criminal activity, including homicides, sexual assaults, internet crimes against children, and drug trafficking.
His administration has helped to address the opioid epidemic, including by seeking accountability from opioid manufacturers and distributors and others that allegedly contributed to the opioid epidemic and helping to secure the recovery of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Josh successfully fought to get legislation passed that will help prevent a future backlog of untested sexual assault kits in Wisconsin, and his administration launched a sexual assault kit tracking system. In addition, Josh has advocated for funding for crime victim services and Wisconsin DOJ’s Office of School Safety.
Wisconsin has been making progress on public safety—Wisconsin had fewer violent crimes last year than it has had in any year since 2011—and there’s more we can do to make our communities safer. Josh supports having the State make additional investments that can help make communities safer. He also supports common-sense gun-safety measures, such as the expansion of background checks for firearms transfers.

A WATCHDOG FOR WISCONSINITES
Wisconsinites should have an AG who can be counted on to put their interests ahead of those of corporate special interests and well-connected insiders. Wisconsin’s AG should be a watchdog for Wisconsinites and our natural resources.
Josh’s administration helped win a settlement with the world’s largest social media company that requires it to make changes that put kids’ mental health ahead of its profits.
Josh’s administration was also part of a coalition that obtained a settlement with Deere & Company that requires it, for a period of 10 years, to make resources available that will help enable farmers to get their John Deere farm equipment repaired without having to go to a Deere dealer. In addition, Josh’s administration has held polluters accountable.

DEFENDING OUR FREEDOMS AND STANDING UP TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
Josh is pro-choice. His administration obtained a ruling last year from the Wisconsin Supreme Court that makes clear that abortions are not broadly banned in Wisconsin by a law dating back to the mid-1800s.
Josh is deeply committed to protecting our democracy. His administration successfully defended the outcome of the 2020 presidential election in Wisconsin in court. He spoke out against Michael Gableman’s so-called investigation into the 2020 elections in Wisconsin, has warned against voter intimidation at the polls, and has repeatedly spoken about the integrity of Wisconsin’s elections. In addition, his administration joined the multistate challenge to a U.S. Postal Service rule that would undermine mail-in voting.
Josh’s administration has joined many multistate cases against the Trump administration. Those cases have challenged, among other things, conditions on, freezes of, or cuts to significant amounts of federal funding; Trump administration tariffs; an executive order issued on the first day of Donald Trump’s current term as president that sought to restrict birthright citizenship; changes the Trump administration had made to the federal childhood immunization schedule; and Trump administration policies that would weaken the protection of the environment.
